Centuries from veteran Quinton de Kock, young middle-order batsman Russie van der Dusen and Aiden Markrum helped South Africa post a record 428 runs against Sri Lanka in their first match of the 2023 ODI tournament by 102 runs. Unveiling their tremendous batting prowess in the match at the Arun Jaitley Ground, the South African team started their campaign with a big win.

Although the match was almost over in the first session itself, the Sri Lankan team played 44.5 overs in their batting. Apart from Kusal Mendis’s explosive game at the beginning, Sri Lanka’s innings did not show the vigor to chase the total. Due to this, the team was bowled out for 326 runs.
By the time the Sri Lankan team started the chase and scored 1 run, opener Pathum undoubtedly lost his wicket.
This time wicket keeper Kusal Mendis, who came to the crease, was LB on the first ball he faced, but was saved by DRS. After that, Kusal Perera and Kusal Mendis added 66 runs for the 2nd wicket. Most of the runs were scored by Kusal Mendis. When the total of the team was 67 runs, Perera who scored 7 runs in 15 balls got out, Kusal Mendis and Charit Asalanka crossed the 100 mark of the team.
