Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Durai Murugan has alleged that Karnataka is doing injustice to the farmers of Tamil Nadu in the name of drinking water by not releasing water as per the order of Cauvery Water Control Committee.
He issued a media release after Karnataka objected to the Cauvery Water Control Committee order, saying that the CWRC has suggested releasing water based on the figures. Karnataka said that water could not be drained even though it was instructed to release very little water. Non-compliance of CWRC order is violation of Supreme Court order.
Only 6.75 TMC of Cauvery basin should be used for drinking water. 27 TMC of water will remain except for drinking water. But Karnataka has cheated Tamilnadu farmers in the name of drinking water. He said that the Tamil Nadu government will not agree to such decisions which hinder the welfare of farmers.
