Chikkaballapur: The Zika virus, which was detected in Kerala’s Kozhikode a few days ago and caused concern among the locals, has now been detected in Chikkaballapur. The health department is on high alert. When mosquitoes were tested in Talakayalabetta village of Shidlaghatta taluk of Chikkaballapur district, the presence of Zika virus was confirmed in mosquitoes. Thus, a random checkup is being done by the health department within a radius of 5 km including Talakayalabetta village.
The health department has monitored approximately 4,800 people in 880 houses of Talakayalabetta, Dibburahalli, Vaddahalli, Bachchahalli villages. Blood tests have already been done on 30 pregnant women and 3 people suffering from fever. Still, as a precautionary measure, those suffering from fever are being monitored, but pregnant women are also being monitored due to the possibility of Zika virus infecting the children born with disabilities.
